Is this a dream?! I felt a little like Alice in Wonderland on our next Door County adventure! We visited the lovely lavender fields of Washington Island. It is hard to believe a place like this actually exists! Simply amazing.
To get there we traveled to the northern tip of the Door County peninsula and hopped on a 20 minute ferry.
Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm is the Midwest’s largest lavender farm. The farm has over 20,000 vibrant lavender plants.
Lucky for us - this magical location is open to the public to enjoy. Take a stroll. Take a photo. Sit and read a book. It is a lovely place to slow down and experience with all your senses.
It truly is a feast for your eyes and nose. The perfumed scent of lavender fills the air. There are bright orange butterflies fluttering about. You can also opt to pick lavender to take home if you like.
The story behind the farm is romantic as well. Owners Edgar and Martine left their high profile global power positions with McDonalds and Neiman Marcus Couture to retire early, move to Door County and start Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm. They have created this wonderful asset to the community hosting monthly events, dinners, artistry and more.
The Fragrant Isle shop is located in the red barn alongside the fields of lavender. They offer a wide range of products and treats created with the pure lavender essential oils that they distill on site.
We tried the lavender ice cream and it was delicious. The lavender flavor is very light and combined with vanilla - it makes for a refreshing and sweet summer treat!
We purchased the lavender linen spray and the boys have been using it everywhere! They spray it on their pillows before bed, on their stuffed animals, in the car and even on a t-shirt that they wanted to wear for a second day. I’m considering ordering a few more bottles off the Fragrant Isle web site to be shipped home! It is pretty magical stuff. The smell brings us right back to Fragrant Isle!
We also bought soaps for Grandma and a couple of lavender bath bombs that the boys are excited to try.
And finally we let each boy choose a couple of sweet treats. They enjoyed the chocolate pound cake, lavender macaroons, and a few truffles.
Fragrant Isle sells many of their products in stores around Door County and the United States! You can also order their products online.
The farm is open for visitors every day of the week from April through November. See their web site for details.
Thank you so much Fragrant Isle for your hospitality! Your farm is a dream!
