6 Favorite Features of Miller Park - A Milwaukee Family Bucket List Adventure
We kicked off our Milwaukee Family Bucket List adventures by heading out to Miller Park to take in a day game and watch the Brewers beat the Nationals!
TOP 6 FAVORITE FEATURES OF MILLER PARK:
1) Scoreboard: Going to a Brewer’s game has always been fun - but they’ve notched the technology up a few levels in the past few years! They’ve gotten SO GOOD at their digital display & story telling. The scoreboard screen keeps the crowd roaring and laughing the entire game! We’ve even said that we felt a bit like we are at a Broadway show! Well, maybe Off-Broadway.
Our family favorite is when the cameraman catches folks glued to their cell phones and broadcasts them on the big screen alongside silly captions that look like texts.
Another highlight is on theme days. They change the players to match the theme like Lo Cain the LoBot and Ryan Braun as Braun Solo on May the 4th Star Wars night.
2) Retractable Roof! (Did you know that we have North America’s only fan-shaped convertible roof!?) What a blessing for Brewer’s fans! Rainy on the outside & dry on the inside!
However — if it is chilly outside, you still need to bring warm clothes! We went on a day when the temp outside was in the 50’s & raining. Inside was dry but not warm! It was comfortable with a warm jacket and gloves. The coffee station had a giant line of folks who forgot to bring a coat!
I heard the roof is open when it is above 60 degrees and dry outside. There is a roof hotline (414-902-4636) you can call but we haven’t always had luck with it being updated before game time.
3) Old School Food At a few food stands you can still order your bratwurst “County Stadium Style.” Which means it is dunked in Secret Stadium Sauce AND covered in kraut. Just like they used to do it at the old ballpark. Is there really any other way to eat a brat in Milwaukee!?
4) Mr Baseball Is Sitting In The Nosebleeds: Go say hi to Milwaukee’s BFF & legend Bob Ueker up in the nosebleeds. Section 422. Very very top row. Probably one of the only statues in America that’s based off an ad campaign! (Well played Miller Lite.)
5) Friendly Pro Athletes! Your best chance of an autograph (or if you are really really lucky a game day ball) is by coming to the stadium an hour early and standing near the dugout in section 112-111. The pitchers (like Hader) come out the most. Aguilar is a ham who will sometimes toss a ball to a kid. We’ve seen Lo Cain give an autograph once or twice. You can almost always count on the mascot Bernie Brewer stopping by. The ushers will kick you out just before the game starts or ask you to move if you happen to be blocking someone’s seats.
6) Sweet Treats: Try the chocolate-vanilla twist custard. We are ice cream connoisseurs here. We love Kopps, the Chocolate Factory and Lee’s Dairy Treat… but man that custard at Miller Park is top notch! A fitting representation of the dairy state! $6 a cup but big enough to share!
Also not to be missed: Make your own sign at the Kohl’s Sign Stations, “check in” on the MLB app to get instant deals, watch the Sausage Races, feel nostalgic for Camp Randall as you Jump Around, think of grandpa & his accordion during the 7th Inning Stretch’s “Roll Out The Barrel” and of course the game! The Brew Crew is hot hot hot right now!
Milwaukee Family Bucket List - The Beginning
Reasons WHY We Are Doing a Milwaukee Bucket List This Summer!
1) Sanity: The boys will be home and we need to add something to our weekly schedules that is not sports related!
2) Revenge: Truth. There were a few people in Minnesota that said with genuine empathy “I am so sorry” and “Well I am sure you will make the best of it” when I announced that we were moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. MY HOMETOWN! Ouch! I want to show the world all of the great reasons WHY we moved here!
3) Connections: I want to grow a local audience. I want to meet local people!
4) Belonging: My kids have spent their entire lives in Minneapolis. And we love it there. However my goal is for them to feel like they belong here in Wisconsin too! I want them to get to know their surroundings - parks, activities, events, etc. I want them to see their great-great-grandparent’s graves. I want them to help keep our home ( local areas) clean by picking up trash one day. I want to track down their great-great grandfather’s tavern.
5) Efficiency: I love being an artist and taking highly creative photos with props and models - but there just isn’t a lot of time for that in the summer with my two boys home. Having a project that I can do with them - and without a lot of set-up is a perfect way for me to stay connected to my camera but still have fun with my little guys while they’re home!
6) Energy Explosion: Since my foot surgery earlier this winter I have had very limited mobility and very limited adventures. I cannot wait to get out and have some fun!!! I’ve been dreaming about it all winter!
Thank you so much for coming along with my family this summer!
