Seeing Charlie Berens The Manitowoc Minute Guy - Milwaukee Family Bucket List Adventure
I am a huge fan of Charlie Berens the Manitowoc Minute guy so I was thrilled when he announced he was going to be performing a charity benefit right in my neighborhood!
It did not disappoint.
Charlie is THE Wisconsin comedian. He grew up here in Wisconsin. He is so good at identifying the nuances of Wisconsinites and then making fun of them in an truly endearing way. Throwing out words like “Cripes” and “Uff Duh,” he had the audience roaring with laughter.
I learned a bit about him during his show. He grew up in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. He is one of 12 kids! His dad is an anesthesiologist at Children’s Hospital. He has a sister who is in high school at Brookfield East. She convinced him to do the show with 100% proceeds going to two non-profits. He gave the charities a bit of face time too.
He had a catholic upbringing which seeps into his jokes. (He told a pretty good story about being an alter boy.) He is married and now lives here in Wisconsin again after a stint out in L.A.
The show alternated between a monologue and video clips.. There were times where the dialogue was a little unpolished but that just made the show even more lovable. I felt the sense we were witnessing him at the start of a career that is just about to skyrocket!
