Nicollet National Forest: Ice Fishing Jamboree

playing in the snow bank in front of the cabin

For President's Day Weekend we traveled to the family cabin in "Up North" Wisconsin located on a small lake in the Nicolet National Forest. I've been going there my entire life.

It is somewhat still wild and always beautiful.

The lake had their annual Ice Fishing Jamboree which draws folks from all over. My kids were eager to ice fish, and I caught a few photos while we were up there.

The ice-fishermen walking out to their spot on the lake

First: Grandpa drilled the hole through the ice with a cool attachment to his drill.

Next: Arlo scooped out any floating ice

...and then they all settled in. The usually quiet lake was filled with fishermen

...lots and lots of fishermen! Despite witnessing it my entire life it still amazes me to see so many cars and trucks on a frozen lake!

The boys waited a long time for a bite! But the weather was great and Grandma even walked out to deliver lunch!

If you are looking to visit the area, I recommend checking out Crivitz, Marinette or Laona. Make sure you check out the Marinette County Waterfall tour too. It is great all year long.

even Wally the pup loves a good snow fort!

I was there too ☺️

It has warmed up so much that this may have been one of our last weekends to enjoy the snow!

See ya next time, Sconnie! 😘
